Meet Cynthia

With more than 20 years devoted to senior care, Cynthia Sherstad has built her life’s work around one guiding belief: aging should be met with dignity, purpose, and connection.

Her career began in retirement communities, where she served as both Activities and Marketing Director, designing meaningful programs for residents across Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care. Over time, her passion led her into private in-home care, supporting individuals with complex medical needs, including diabetes management, wound care, and cardiac and renal dietary oversight.

Cynthia believes care extends far beyond the important clinical tasks she once provided her clients. Whether it’s a BBQ at the beach, taking in the sights, sounds and scents of the sea, rediscovering a long-forgotten hobby…it’s all important. These are the times when conversations take place that honor a lifetime of stories.

As a dedicated professional and for peace of mind, Cynthia has been Certified in Memory Care and Senior Exercise, CPR certified, licensed in the State of Hawai‘i, and professionally insured through NSA / Nurses Service Organization; she provides families with both competence and confidence. As a trained Hospice Volunteer, Cynthia understands that care is not only about extending years — it is about enriching them.

Her professional journey also includes traveling between Hawai‘i Island, Maui, Kaua‘i, and O‘ahu as a Hearing Aid Consultant, conducting hearing evaluations and fitting hearing aids — helping seniors reconnect to conversation, family, and life.

There are times kama’aina must travel to O’ahu for medical procedures. As a result of her extensive interisland travel, Cynthia offers a premium and personalized AK Medical Travel Companion Service. This service is door-to-door, bringing many clients and families peace of mind, knowing there is someone qualified to assist them on this journey. The AK Medical Travel Companion Service is also available to visitors or our seasonal guests to the Big Island.

Through ALOHA KAI – Life Enrichment Services, Cynthia offers something rare: clinical awareness, lifestyle enrichment, and compassionate presence woven together in every season of life.

This is Diana

Our First Client on Hawai’i Island:

Diana, our very first client on the Big Island—and exactly the kind of person ALOHA KAI was created for. She’s spent her life exploring, learning, and sharing the beauty of the world around her, especially the ocean and its marine life. With decades of experience as a curator and educator at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center, Diana has always believed that life should stay full of curiosity, connection, and meaningful experiences—no matter your age.

Even now, Diana continues to seek out adventure, whether it’s visiting museums, enjoying the coast, or simply getting out and engaging with the world more deeply. That’s where ALOHA KAI comes in. Our time with Diana is all about creating thoughtful, enriching outings that match her interests, energy, and love for learning—while providing the support and companionship that makes every experience feel easy and enjoyable.

Diana represents so many of the individuals and families Cynthia has and will continue to serve: active, thoughtful, and wanting more out of each day. With ALOHA KAI, it’s not just about care—it’s about continuing to live fully, stay connected, and enjoy the moments that matter most.
